Venue information

This vast two-lake complex consists of Gunwade Lake and Overton Lake, with almost 190 pegs to choose from. It is renown as a bream water, where feeder tactics provide anglers with the largest hauls, but that is not to say that pole or waggler doesn't work well too. Roach, perch and skimmer bream can all be caught on the pole line, using maggot, caster, worm, sweetcorn or hemp on the hook, presented over loosefeed or groundbait. The feeder angler should consider the usual bait armoury of casters and chopped worm, but be prepared to try the likes of hair-rigged meat chunks, sweetcorn and even mini boilies as these baits are working very well for the bigger bream to 7lb. Depths are pretty constant, at around 8ft, and the bottom is very clean and weed free. These two lakes suffer greatly with strong undertow so it pays to use heavier floats and rigs that the norm, to hold the bait steady. The Ferry Meadows complex also holds a huge number of predators, with zander to double figures predominent. Coarse deadbaits and eel sections are by far the best baits for them. Long walks are required to reach some pegs, but there is a walkway around the whole complex. There is good car parking and toilets, plus a cafe on each lake.

Fish Gunwade Lake near the monument on fresh coarse deadbaits to get zander into double figures. BEWARE!!! You have to hit it just right, or you cant by a bite.

If it's Bream you want then Ferry Meadows is the venue for you, but as with all Bream fishing the conditions need to be right and it's either Boom or Bust here. If you arrive at Ferry Meadows and find flat calm conditions & the weather has been warm for a period raising the water temp then have a go at the large roach shoals fishing hemp & tares in pegs 1 through 45.

One of my fave venues...

If you are into feeder fishign for bream, as I am, this is a must-visit venue. On its day - when the wind's blowing and the clouds are heavy - Ferry Meadows fishes its nuts off for roach, skimmers and big bream. I always have a back-up venue though, because if the day's calm, hot and bright, you simply won't get a bite here.
