Venue information
LOCATED in the heart of the East Sussex Weald, Belfrey Coarse Fishery consists of two waters, a picturesque and peaceful 25-peg main lake and a 7-peg pool adjacent. The water has recently been taken over and has seen improvements in access, the addition of a toilet block and bankside maintenance.
Both pools are extremely well stocked with carp in the main lake reaching 22lb. They also hold roach, rudd, crucians and some super perch to 3lb that fall to legered lobworms. It’s certainly unusual to blank here with lots of small fish to be had with on-the-drop tactics.
For the carp, spicy meat scores in the warmer months on the main pool, fishing to the margins such as the bankside reeds, the island and the underwater tree. Whisky and strawberry flavoured-boilies are the ‘in’ baits at the moment. During the height of summer, freelined crust or dog biscuits can be brilliant.
Depths vary from two feet or so along the margins to six feet in the centre of the lakes.
Getting there
Take the A22 from Eastbourne and turn onto the A267 at Lower Horsebridge towards Horam. Travel 500 yards and the fishery is on your left. Open the gate and you can drive directly to the car park, which is beside the lake.
