Only got into carp fishing this year/season (2013/14)and a friend recommended Stanborough as a good place to start. I'm not disappointed. It's not an easy place to catch (I've heard some some real horror stories about the easy commercials!!) and I've learnt a lot about Carp fishing in the short time I've had whilst fishing at Stanborough. The baliffs are very friendly and happily give tips on swims, feed, etc. I have landed some very nice commons from 8lb to mid doubles and caught a lovely 23lb common on Monday 2nd December. To date I've only had one mirror from the lake, but have heard there are some good ones in there. I haven't fished the river, but have heard some good things about the Barbel and Chub (may try it over the winter). I avoid going there on Thursdays and Sundays as they have matches on. That said, there are still plenty of pegs to fish from. Reading some reviews you may get a bad view of Stanborough, but I've never had a problem and I've fished there once a week since June this year. I've had a few blanks and speaking with other anglers it hasn't been uncommon this season, but to be fair I'm not expecting the fish to jump in the net for me! Apart from the carp, there are plenty of bream and small roach. There are ticket machines for your day ticket, but I normally pay the baliff when he walks round. The car park machines are currently working so if you arrive before 9am you have to go to the boating office pay for a ticket!! A bit of nuisance, but not the end of the world. Overall I would totally recommend Stanborough as a good venue to visit.

A few years ago the strech of the River Lea within Stanboro Lakes was excellent fishing with well maintained swims and guarenteed non stop action. However in recent years the swims have become overgrown and some swims are unfishable. The stretch now only has about 2 decent swims where your guarenteed to be busy all day long with decent sized chub and tons of silver fish. Baby pike have become a real irritant along the stretch and once their in your swim you may aswell change swims as the smaller fish are scared to feed.

Well where do i start. First off its a boating lake, Boats have priority. Also accross the lake was about 4-5 polish dead lining fishing. told them to stop and didnt listen. I had no number to phone the bailif and tell him. Ended up getting a fist to the face and 2 of my rods stolen police couldnt do any thing because i could exsplain what they look like enough. Other then that its a good lake.

As a disabled, OAP angler, I was delighted by the friendliness and helpfull staff at the information office. They opened a gate for me to drive right to a peg on the lake. So with the car right behind me on the peg I had a very enjoyable day. Fishing a swimfeeder with groundbait and corn then bread, I had over 100lbs of bream upto 4lbs, a brilliant day. Thanks to the staff for helping me have an excellent and safe day.

i have always caught from this lake, i recently had a 25lb mirror and a 23lb common plus another 2 20's, there are countless numbers of bream around 4 to 8 lbs and silverfish and if your lucky maybe a catfish. the swims are great and the cafe are toilets are good too.

Very good fishing, you can go there and always catch a good bag of bream, there are plenty of carp, lots of silvers, even the odd pike and zander in there.
