Venue information
Carpenter's Lake is set on the outskirts of the village of Wanstrow, in Somerset.
The lake is 1.75 acres and has two islands with depths between 4ft and 7ft.
It was dug in August 2005 and has a clay bottom. Since then the lake has been planted with reeds, rushes and lilies around the margins. Also trees and hedging has been planted to help shelter the lake and the anglers fishing there.
Doors opened on 16th June 2007 when the lake was available to syndicate members only. The syndicate ran for two years, with very few members to help preserve the stocks and maintain the fish's health.
The lake is now in its fourth year and has become well established. The syndicate is now closed and the lake is now open to the public under a phone-and-book service. The maximum number of anglers at any one time will be three.
There are six swims in total and one double swim. All swims have their individual section of water, providing ample features to fish towards. Every swim is covered in bark, ensuring no more muddy feet whatever the weather.
Each swim has hand rail guards for disabled anglers.
A canin is available on the lake, measuring 4m by 5m. It has a single bed, a small kitchen with a double gas cooker and grill. It also has a log burning stove.
A chemical toilet is situated at the rear of the cabin.
