Well sheltered and always capable of producing a mixture of fish throughout the year, this stretch of the canal has plenty of bank fishing and access is excellent. There is a nice flat bank facing the footbridge above the lock system and because the canal is wider at this point, there volume of fish is greater. Winter fishing can be very good below the lock gates where bream congregate with a smattering of roach and skimmers. Avoid weekends from April to October.
Fishing-wise it is like most of canalised sections of the Waterway – it has the capability of throwing up a big catch of bream, there is a large head of roach, skimmer bream, plenty of tench and the usual batch of hybrids and perch. It is fair to say the canal is under-fished and though increasing numbers of local anglers can be found on the bank, very few reports filter out.
