Please can you give me some tips on winter chubbing on small rivers.
The first thing you must do is to keep quiet. Don’t stamp your feet and avoid breaking the skyline because chub spook really easily – in fact big chub are one of the hardest fish to catch. Try making your own strong-smelling cheese paste from Danish Blue and flour, then fishing it upon a free-lining rig, casting it tight to overhanging weed rafts, bushes, undercut banks and snags, because – unfortunately for us anglers – that’s where you will find those big chub!
