Firstly, a 2lb roach is still a much sought-after and rare specimen, so rather than lay the emphasis on the best bait and tactic, I would spend more time locating a venue that holds them, or is likely to hold them. Once you have found a likely water, arm yourself with a few pints of maggots, set up a couple of rods with heavy, semi-fixed feeder rigs with short, 4in hooklengths, get yourself a couple of bite alarms and heavyweight bobbins, then all the gear you will need to confidently fish into darkness. Big roach are easiest to catch in the first three hours of night.
