It may not be right to fish with livebait, but we have a right to

It’s not much of a secret that I don’t really like pike. Nothing personal, it’s just that I find the whole process of trying to catch something with more teeth than brain cells all a bit clumsy, crude and, more often than not, painful. There’s too much metal and blood for my liking. Then, of course, there are the anglers ...

Keith Arthur - BAA livebait ban is the thin end of the wedge

The decision made by the committee of the BAA to ban livebaiting is one of the most serious matters to arise in angling politics in the last decade, in my opinion. There is no more natural means of catching fish than by using livebaits. Our very sport, coarse fishing, bears its name under the meaning of coarse beingnatural: we fish ...

This potential new IGFA world record Wels catfish weighing 250lb 5oz was caught from the River Po in Italy. Des Taylor's pike fly fishing comments

Reading this weeks article regarding fly fishing for Pike, I felt my blood boil. Mr. taylor is just  talking the same rubbish spouted by so called proper Pike Fishermen, who A - don't  fly fish and  B - live in the dark ages. Let me point out a few issues here. Firstly, He clearly has a problem with the method for Pike fullstop. May he say why? A fly rod is deemed acceptable to to tame a hard fighting fresh run Salmon which could be caught and released but a pike? No, it seems. You will hear the usually arguement that due to ...

Catfish triple topped by 72lb 4oz specimen

After drawing a blank on his first tench session of the year, Terry Lampard switched his attention to the catfish in Dorset’s Todber Manor, where he took this massive 72lb 4oz specimen, along with two others in an overnight session. Targeting the venue’s Paddock Lake with a small rudd livebait fished just below the surface on a ‘polyball rig’, Terry ...

110lb amberjack tops sea fishing trip of a lifetime

Holidaying British angler Tony Scott (pictured above centre) and his wife, Jean, enjoyed a dream trip to Florida where they boated numerous jacks, kingfish and sharks, topped by this huge 110lb-plus amberjack which fought for over 45 minutes after taking Tony’s livebait. The couple’s target of a 100lb-plus tarpon had to be put on hold after the unseasonably cold weather ...

Keith Arthur: I'm so tempted to go back

When I learned that a consortium of local clubs with memberships available had taken over the running of Fishers Green I couldn’t have been happier. The River Lea on what was then called ‘The Seventy-Acre Fishery’ was where I first encountered running water. Thanks to Mr Crabtree I knew what to do and where to look for chub and barbel, ...

I'm sorry...K.A again

"There is no more natural means of catching fish than by using livebaits." This is again an extract taken from his article about the B.A.A banning the use of livebait. Should that not read..There is no more natural means of catching predatory fish than by using livebaits ? Not all fish can be caught on livebaits, what's more natural than catching fish on things they feed on like worms, slugs, shrimps, mussels or berries. Is it me ? am I ready his comments completely wrong ?
