Woodhouse Grange

Hi guys i have just been told that the bailiff ( Tony) at Woodhouse Grange Doncaster has been given the sack, this info will please a very big amount of anglers as the man was a complete prat, the number of anglers who have stopped going to this venue because of him is huge.

There's a good many more out there around the country that should go the same way. Some places I go to it's a wonder they get many people through the gate with the attitude of some of these bailiffs/owners.

Re: Woodhouse Grange

I do not know if either of you have ever done any bailiffing but it is a thankless task you have to set yourself apart and the water that is your responsibilty comes first in all things. when you see people abusing fisheries doing as they please treating fish and wildlife with no regard and being selfish and inconsiderate and loadmouthed is it any wonder they get the hump and everyone gets treated like they are cretins just incase they are. It is a shame that bailiffs are not respected anymore and its a shame that a lot of so called anglers are not anglers at all just jerks playing at it and annoying everyone else on the fishery. I have been a bailiff for nearly forty years on pubic and private fisheries and the job is harder today than it has ever been.

I understand and agree that bailiffs are there to protect the water and the stock first and customer service isn't a priority, but I encounter many with the same brief that are pleasant, very helpful and make a visit to their venue all the more enjoyable. It's business at the end of the day and customers will always vote with their feet. I'm sure you're a lovely, friendly bailiff greg ;D

The first thing a bailiff  learns is you cannot be the fox and run with the hounds if a bailiff does his job he has  very few friends one of the reasons being he has to be stricter with his friends than anyone otherwise you get oh but the bailiffis your mate he lets you get away with it  everyone trys it on even committee members if you let them. whats good for the goose is good for the gander including bailiffs who have to be whiter than white if they want to be fair and credible everyone watches you like a hawk just waiting to catch you out but not yet I am glad to say.

Re: Woodhouse Grange

Hi Gregg I have no bad feelings towards baliffs that are doing there job, but the balif in question was and always will be a prize pratt, I was fishing at Woodhouse grange where he was the baliff and I was talking to him and 4 cars pulled up full of anglers, now bare in mind just to the left of where we were talking there was a new lake just dug out with 2ft of rain water in it, 1 of the anglers came up to us and told the baliff they had just come down from Newcastle to fish the lake has they had heard a lot about it, he then asked the baliff if it would be possible to use keepnets so they could have a little match between them.

The baliff told them they could use their keepnets in the lake to our left now this was the one with only the 2ft of rain water in I told Tony the baliff that he was out of order and asked him why he did not just say keepnets were not allowed, after a few heated words he walked off so I had to go and tell the 12 anglers thast there was no fish in that lake it had just been dug out and it was only rainwater that was in it.

Needless to say they went and had a right go at the baliff but he just laughed at them they even offered to pay pegging fees but no joy.

Ther was another time when i was fishing the little lake when a guy pulled up and went up to the cafe and went and read the notice board with the rules on, he then came down to the little lake and got tackled up he had been fishing for about 25 minuetes when the baliff came down for his money  he went straight up to him and started effing and blinding at him and told him to take his feeder rod out and get packed up and( F off as) he was banned , when the angler asked him why he said feeder fishing was not allowed on the lake, the guy told him it does not say anything about feeder fishing not being allowed on the rules board but the baliff just told him to( F off). It was at that time I decided to pack up and not go back anymore as i could not stop myself from telling him what a pratt he was and worse, and I have not been back since allthough the fishery is one hell of a good fishery.

The man sounds like a right prat it is a wonder no one chucked him in I know some of my friends would have and I  am surpised  the chaps from Newcastle did not  I have some sea angling friends from that part of the country and there is no way they would have been treated like that but as you say he has been sacked. Bailiffs have to be firm but they also have to be fair and keep a civil manner about themselves and not act like a prat.
