 Depends on water temperture,in the UK they are normanly around April/ May, evening high water or in the morning best times, in the south can be early March, they leave Uk shores again in September/ October. Look for fast flowing water, birds diving into the water, black shadows of shoals of Mackeral moving along the shore line, chasing, whitebait, sandeels or sprats.

 Your welcome, instead of bashing them with feathers, i know if you want to stock up for some bait or tea. But i always go light for them, float fish for them, for some great sport. You may need to set up a sliding float method, as some time Garfish, swim with the Mackeral as well as Scad, at different depths, mainly Garfish at the top, Mackeral  then Scad, a little ground bait helps as well.

Looking forward to the Maccy arriving soon off the Northumberland Coast, as soon as I hear anything, I will post on here. I fancy giving Warkworth beach and around Alnmouth harbour a go, really looking forward to it !!
