River Nidd Pateley Bridge

Hi guys, were heading off for a stay at the riverside caravan park this weekend and my brother and I both fancy a couple of days fishing on the Nidd (the stretch just above Pateley bridge) which is barely 30 seconds walk away, I'm planning to fish for the trout on the fly but im a coarse fisherman at heart so im a bit of a novice to this, the fact that I have only ever caught chub to 5 1/2lb fly fishing may prove that  haha. I know all about floating/sinking lines, the right weighted rod for the right location etc, however, flies get me every time. I was planning on fishing some sort of dry fly as we witnessed a few trout topping on our scouting session but I read that an ''upstream nymph'' can do wonders here to? Forgive me for sounding a dunce but.....what nymph would you use and would it be used with a floating or sinking line? Also, for a 9ft rod (the only one I currently own), how long a leader would you use, this has always been a problem. Thanks in advance for any help guys
