Re: Surface Carp
Surface fishing is 1 of the most exciting ways to catch carp, few simple tricks to help you,
find the fish, snags, lillies, tree line etc,
feed as many swims as you can (if poss) with a handful of biscuits even when bread fishing,
suspenders, controllers, are all good in open water, i like to freeline it allows you to fish the real snaggy swims with out fear of losing tackle,
i use a 2.75lb tc rod, and 12 main line which i attach a 30ft 10lb braid as my hook link, (also helps casting) to this i add 3 dog biscuits (also helps casting and more confident takes due to not seeing the hook) some will say this overpowered BUT when you snag fish you need good tackle and anything less WILL NOT DO,
with this set up i can cast the biscuits a good 30/40 foot with ease, and can safely remove the fish from the snags,
simple point list for feeding which is where the time goes thats why feeding a few swims helps keep the fishing active for longer
1,travel light
2,dog biscuits and bread never bread on its own
3,feed as many swims as you can with an handful in each
4,watch water can take hrs to get them feedin confidently
5,keep feeding ALL your choosen swims
6,once you catch a fish feed swim and leave and go use 1 of the others
7,keep feeding
8,hold on tight snag fishing you have no time for pods and bank sticks so keep rod close and be fast
9,enjoy it takes sometime to read the swims correctly and to build fishes trust (which is part of the fun tricking them into taking a bait right in front of you)
10,keep feedin ( i cannot express this enough)
this is my own technic and it proves successful to me and with the 2hrs after work i get in the evenings is the most effective, no doubt it will be poopooed by some but i say come watch me on the pond and i will out fish anyone using this method
i hope this gives you some ideas on where to begin for surface fishing and good luck
