THE BIG ISSUE

The one big question is why are members old and new not posting on the forum is it to much trouble to expect to get an answer from these members so an answer can at least be looked for .Why do members sign in and say nothing you know who you are give some kind of answer to this question can you please so that maybe an answer to the way this forum is going can be changed for the better it is not good enough to say all forums are suffering give the reasons why YOU do not post.

Thanks.  It's not that i'm too far in my shell and cowering from all the tension around me.  It's just I've got better things to do than trawl through snipe and countersnipe to follow the important part of a thread.  I will continue to use the forum, and wherever applicable i'll volunteer my thoughts and opinions.  I just won't be getting involved in topics that have users tearing strips off each other.  There is a massive difference between trying to get someone to see your point and whitewashing them with a verbally poisonous rant.  It appears some on here would do well to remember that at times that's all

i was a member when it was the old AT site then it seemed that fishing was the main subject questions were asked and answered sometimes by well known anglers and it all helped to create intrest bit in my opinion the thing that pushed everything forward was the input of a bloke called steve cole who worked for AT and ran the forum then it changed to go fishing around the same time steve left and the forum went downhill and a lot of members joined other forums never to return then along came toombsy who i thought did a great job only to be rewarded with the sack and to me there lies the problem apart from mrwell there is no official leadership we dont hear anything from the powers that be apart from advertising what do we ever see from AT its like a ship without a captain just left to chug along under its own steam

i wish i could be sensible but i cant help supporting sheffield wednesday up the owls

I was also a member then DDJ , yes some good threads and we did have more well known anglers on, but we had our fair share of biting, and a lot of brittle personalities just the same.I think people left at the changeover because the new site seemed more complicated, and because of IT moving on in those years it could be that the NEW thing is now the likes of facebook especially when the site is run by younger people who are more receptive to these newer information highways, and angling celebs now have their own blogs, facebook, twitter. As I have said having looked at the AT facebook for the first time the other day that is where their energies seem to be focused these days, maybe us oldies need to get WITH IT.

Re: THE BIG ISSUE

There's little doubt that facebook blogs and so on have killed forums off in some ways but that's the sign of the times and if you don't move with them you get stuck in a time warp,i think this site is suffering from this that is why a new up to date format is needed very soon, get rid of the none used sections, condense the site up so it becomes more user friendly, why have a competition section if no competitions are being put on?..why have that section at the bottom of the site that was last used TWO YEARS  ago?... lets get a new format on here, there is no need for so many sections.

I make mistakes i am only human well half the time.

Why not use the competition section and put competitions on, maybe that would get more users and users who would post more things. If Go Fishing were to use the competition section again, like the "Spot the Bait Ball" or "Win a rod" or "Win 10kg of your favourite bait" or something like that. Instead of getting rid of sections that used to work but due to neglect, have fallen into dereliction, Use the site to its fullest, not chop it down and cut stuff that used to work.

I am guilty as charged ......

But in my defence I am a relative newbie to course fishing still, and I definately could not comment on some if not most of the threads, due to being "wet behind the ears" no pun intended there .

My other reason for not posting is I am a pretty busy guy, I work as a dreaded "truck driver!" crap shifts/hours

and I have a thriving family of ......you ready for this?.....one very understanding and busy wife, an 11 year old, an 8 year old, a 6 year old AND a 12 week old....ALL GIRLS!!!!!

Re: THE BIG ISSUE

I joined this forum four years ago, primarily to keep in touch with what was going on and to pass on lessons I had learnt to anyone that found it of interest. I think the site is thriving, but like most things it fluxuates from time to time. My main focus is on threads that relate directly to fishing and I try not to get too involved with off topic issues. I must confess though I have sat in front of my desk top many a time looking at the off topic threads and wetting my knickers at some of the petty and purile comments made. However that's life and it will never change. On a serious note, I think the site has many members like myself, who are reactive rather than proactive, which means someone has to start the ball rolling before everyone else kicks in, so I can understand Greg's frustration. Pete.

ha ha besides storming Norman my other nickname should be short fuse ( I knew someone and that was his nickname - best not to ask ) I read some of my old threads and cringe thinking why on earth did I post that ? Just depends on your personality I suppose.

Mostly me and Jack kick off but , we often exchange PM message as well , and to be honest I would  be more than happy to sit down with him and have a beer , providing he gets his hand in his sky rocket and buys the first one, might have a long wait if its true what I have heard about those from Yaaarkshire.

Pete do you think all the kicking off has hindered the forum ? Norfolinesox , tenchstar are among many others I miss from the past but so is Aintree Angler and that guy could start a fight on his own in a lift.

Of course the conclusion is that if there is no God head , no guiding hand , no mystical force , then we are all automata clinging to a rock , whizzing through space ,hurtling and clinging on to some God forsaken ride, chemical accidents , accidentally chemically aware , peeking at conciousness , trapped like rats in a rat trap.

Re: THE BIG ISSUE

I think my problem is that people type sooo slowly , I touch type and rarely even read what I have said , sometimes I don't put enough thought into what I say and I don't always read other peoples posts properly.

Ironfever said once "only about 40 percent of what I post makes any sense"

"thats pretty good for me " I said.

So I often treat this forum like its a real time chat and sometimes sit here thinking come on answer me

In my job I'm a little bit like that but I am very careful at work to monitor it and try to recompense.

Like JAck said though better to have quality posts rather than a stream of conciousness gibberish which is what I sometimes post.
