Hi jumney,

I have never fished the Ouse but maybe next time you could try altering the depth you were fishing and the shotting of the weights, to make it so that the bait either falls slower or quicker through the water to the depth chosen. Also try different baits, either single maggot or double maggot, or discs of bread, or corn or pallets or wroms. It doesnt hurt to have a couple of baits to try when you go fishing.

Hope that helps.

Sounds like you should try another part if Bleak are prominent, can't understand why the Perch are not there if so many Bleak are present, sorry i can't help you with the Rivers because i don't fish them but trying another swim would be my best bet

I make mistakes i am only human well half the time.

Hi Jumney

I had a similar problem a few years back but I also caught minnows and gudgeon. The problem is even with a larger bait it gets attacked by the small fish and is destroyed before the bigger fish get to it.

The only thing I can suggest is you use an artificial bait, say plastic bread, which can't be taken by the small fish.

Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught.

Look for another swim in sme faster water if you can find it if not go on the feeder in deeper water the feeder will take your bait though any bleak as they are a topwater fish..Where on the ouse are you fishing.

You could try minimising your locking shot and bulking your shot about two thirds down then one small dropper shot about 6 inches from the hook, this should get your hook and bait down quicker and get past the bleak.

Or try a bigger hook and bait, a size 8 or 6 with half a lobworm on that's too big for the bleak and will attract your perch.

Or try stret pegging

cheers

I live with FEAR everyday sometimes she lets me go fishin
