sponsorship know how

How do i get sponsored?, this question pops-up everywhere and answers come left right and center but never reall give you any info do they, well here's my account. I myself am luck engouh to be sponsored and really i dont know how but i try and give you some pointers.

1; Nothing is free, yes you will get some freebies but you will have to pay for some of your stuff but at a dramatically reduced price.

2; You dont need to catch massive fish, my PB list is average at best, consistanty is key to succses.

3; You can catch the biggest fish in the world but unless you can write well and have a good eye for photography forget about it, start to write a blog with photos about your fishing sessions and ask companys if they would like to use your blogs on there website, any free advertisment on there products works well.

4; Money, keep your day to day job as the angling industry isnt well paid, if anything at all.

5; If you are single then great use the time you have but if like me your married and have children make sure your partner understands what you are trying to do, no amount of fishing or free gear is worth losing your family over.

6; Keep trying, it is hard work and it will not be easy but keep trying you will get there, i did.

I hope this helps and if you have any question then please dont hesitate to ask.

Tight lines and best fishies

Interesting stuff. Thank you, Scott. I had a look at your video and your blog. Well done.

This thread and the other one on sponsorship got me thinking a bit. There is a well-known angler who lives fairly near me (well about 30 miles away) and is mentioned in the local paper quite often (we have an outdoors page at the back of the sports section). His name is Pete Ponds. If you just Google his name, you will find quite a lot of stuff on him. His competition earnings are $388,000. He seems to have a lot of sponsors. He is on the bass fishing (freshwater) circuit and has competed in the BassMaster Classic. I suspect he gets a lot of free equipment and probably some earnings from sponsors, too. My guess is becuase of who he is, he has some other money-making opportunities. I think he must be fairly successful - but the anglers who have won the Classic and placed multiple times make even more.

Back to the UK, I often wonder about bait consultants - many times I have read about a large carp being caught and the captor is a bait consultant. I'm curious about these consultants - how many and is this a full-time job? Being a bit mischievous, I have sometimes wondered whether they actually used the bait they were promoting or not?

I assume some match anglers get sponsorship?

Match anglers are sponsored and a lot endorse certain products. I was fishing next to a Dynamite Baits sponsored angler the other week and he was showing me some Dynamite pellets he had. When I asked him if he had caught on them he said I caught all my fish on bread!
