MAJOR FISH KILL IN VIENNA

A massive explosion during the night has killed thousands of fish in the river Danube in the centre of Vienna it caused a massive fountain of water and was heard several miles away it is thought to have been a second world war bomb of some size possibley a flying bomb . Divers are going to investigate the area today. I can remember as a boy going to the Chase in Dagenham in about 57 and being stopped by the police because Bomb disposal were removing a bomb from the fishery . I found out later that the bailiff a man we called Jock had spotted it in the clear water no more than six foot from the bank. Even today we get the odd one turn up the last one was about seven years ago at Dovers corner it was a 1000 pounder destined for Hornchuch airfield they evacuated the area for one mile which included my firm while they made it safe.

Not good is it? Scary. How many more are there? They say that one in Vienna might have had a faulty timer.

MAJOR FISH KILL

Yes it can that or they reckon with the bombs being that old it can be a chemical reaction. There is an old  american liberty ship in the Thames Estuary the Montgomery broke her back and sank loaded with munitions coroding away they reckon if it went up the damage to the surrounding area would be enormous it is about three odd mile off Southend and they reckon it would take out the whole seafront if it went up.

It's off Sheerness, it would take out every window there. I did once read that if it went off, the blast zone would be as far as Wembley.

the picture you see is no portrait of me, it's surreal to be shown to someone i don't know

That is right Bob Sheerness is on the Kent side opposite southend . I fished the wreck a few times in the seventies it was bouyed off with just a couple of masts sticking out of the water . I can remember when the pleasure boats like the Skylark would take day trippers out to view the war time wrecks you used to be able to get within less than a hundred yards of it it is in less than 30 foot of water. They reckon it is to unstable to be interfered with and hopefully the seawater will do its job in time. Must be a few in the London docks with the pounding they took.

I was reading in the TELEGRAPH that a german uxb team were killed and three others injured on tuesday in Gottingen when a 1000pound bomb with a chemicle fuse went up while they were trying to disarm it . An expert said in 2008 that the chemical fuses were becoming that unstable that the slightest vibration is enough to set them off  .
