There’s nothing like the capture of an impressive specimen fish to keep youngsters motivated, and this huge 34lb cod certainly did that for schoolboy Tyler Hallett. The 14-year-old, battled with the fish, which measured 45ins long and boasted a girth of 32ins, when he fished out of Brighton Marina aboard the charter vessel ‘Grey Viking II’, skippered by Ray Burn. ...

Tempting fate, bad karma – whatever you want to call it, I now know what you shouldn’t say when your mate says Roker Pier has been producing cod to 7lb all day. “Great, cod guaranteed then,” I replied, before compounding the voodoo by setting out the terms of tomorrow’s visit. “First to ten fish, and everything less than 5lb goes ...
Make no mistake - fishing for cod is one of the most difficult branches of shore angling to attempt. It's mostly because in recent years cod have been scarce. The species is rarely found really close to the shore, and almost invariably a decent cast is required to reach feeding fish. There is a saying that all the cod caught ...
The European cod record has been beaten twice in the space of two days. Danish sea angler Filip Faurholm was the first to enter the record books after boating a 86lb 7oz fish off the coast of Soroya in Northern Norway, comfortably beating the old record of 82lb 11oz. Filip used a Giant Jighead lure from Kinetic Fishing to tempt ...

I saw in the angling press that Diobas can now breed cod, and other sea species, in fresh water. Surely this is the answer to the Greens and the issue of killing everything that is caught, like it is in Germany. I would willingly fish for cod instead of carp, tench etc. and would be more than willing to take these home to eat. In fact I would take carp home to eat if it was the rule to do so, I have eaten it on the continent and found it quite tasty. Wouldn't it be better for the commercial fisheries to ...

A trip to Norway ended with Stuart Norrish landing this 26lb shore-caught cod. The Devon-based rod latched into the personal best after it devoured a Bluey hookbait presented on a Pennell pulley rig during a trip to the Skarnsundet area of the country. A brace of other 20lb-plus cod and three over 10lb were also caught by Stuart and his ...

So cod and codling will be flavour of the month and I suppose the first question to resolve is the old chestnut of when does a codling grow up to be a cod? I don’t know of a clear dividing line, but in my book a 5lb fish is still a codling while a 10lb fish is a cod so it ...
A group of British anglers have discovered what they believe to be the best cod fishing on the planet after taking monsters of 49lb 7oz, 48lb and 45lb from the shore. The trio of giant fish, all heavier than the British record, were taken after the anglers became disillusioned with the quality of sport on offer around the coast of ...

On the 22nd Dec 09 my buddy Justin Scholes and I set sail aboard Ellebella for a spot of cod fishing of the Needles. It was a perfect day with calm seas and bright sunshine but bitterly cold. We set up our rods with size 4/0 pennel rigs and baited up with whole squid. After a very short while we were into fish, but ...
