York-based sea angler Rupert Drury and Whitby charter skipper Richard Ward have been experiencing great shark fishing off the coast of North Yorkshire in recent seasons, culminating in their capture of this estimated 200lb porbeagle.

Despite effective chumming being difficult due to the limited run of mackerel, Rupert’s frozen supplies proved sufficient to attract the attentions of the specimen, together with another fish of around 160lb.

Both fish fell to fresh mackerel hookbaits, with the bigger of the two being taken half an hour before slack water and taking 45 minutes to boat, while the smaller fish came on a full ebbing tide and was beaten in 25 minutes.
