Believe it or not, Shimano fixed-spool Baitrunner reels are not just for carp anglers.
They can be used in all sorts of shore angling situations, and I like to use one when chasing big flounders on the River Wear.
This model is perfect for leaving the reel in free-spool and letting a fish swim off with the bait before you turn the handle for the strike.
Featuring an XT-7 body and rotor, a one-piece bale and aluminium spool, it also sports a new design, colour and performance.
The oscillation is perfect and smooth for an even line lay, with a retrieve of 4.8:1, enhanced by three SA-RB and single roller bearings.
The front drag is easily operated and you can adjust the tension of the free-spool at the rear of the reel.
