Venue information

This long sandy stretch of beach has easy access and is an ideal location for anyone wanting some summer action.
It fishes best on a flooding tide after a calm spell and better if high water is early morning, as the sun is rising.
Winter months are best after a rough sea when the water is coloured and from low water up to high.

Paul Fenech

SPECIES
Winter sees codling, whiting, dabs, flounders, rockling and perhaps a bass, but it’s the summer months that provide some super action.
Bass, thornback rays and smoothhounds are why anglers come to Chapel Point as the days become longer and warmer.

BAIT AND TACKLE
Yellowtail lugworms will catch almost anything in winter, but try tipping with squid, mackerel, bluey and razorfish.
Peeler crabs during the summer will be the top bait, especially if you want to bag a smoothhound. Sandeels, squid and bluey’s will certainly catch thornback rays and bass.
A standard beachcaster rod and reel capable of handling a 6oz sinker and large bait will be best, but use strong leaders and rig bodies if you target smoothhounds.

GETTING THERE
From the A52 to Skegness, carry on to Ingoldmells and follow the signs to Chapel St Leonards.
There is a car park at the point that has a café and public toilets and the fishing marks are short walk on to the beach.

Since I live right here on this beach it is the mark I fish the most. Although I have been fishing this for 3 years, I have had limited success, a few flatties, dog fish and whiting. Though I still consider myself a novice at sea fishing I have fished for a long time now and am learning something new everytime I go out. This beach has almost everything a angler could want, deep water, gullies, clay beds and from what I hear some real nice fish. This is a popular holiday destination so fishing is best early morning or after dark when the tides are right otherwise you are fishing with swimmers.I will crack on and hopefully during the summer time hone my skills to prepare myself for the winter cod.
