The best sea fishing marks and worldwide charter boat services
Venue information
This is a noted cod venue with fishing from steep, low-water reefs onto broken ground.
The reefs stretch from the power station up to Stolford. You should also be aware of the tides, especially on the bigger ones as it will flood behind you and cut you off.
SPECIES
October to March are the main months for cod. Thornback rays, whiting, pouting, poor cod and smoothhounds can also be expected.
The warm water outlets can be productive for bass and silver eels.
BAIT AND TACKLE
Rag and lug tipped with squid for the cod, but tip off with fish-baits for the whiting and pouting. Rag, peeler crabs and mackerel will attract rays and bass.
In early winter, peelers will be the main bait for the cod. The big bait, big fish rule applies at this mark.
Your tackle should be up to fishing into rough ground. 3/0 Pennell-pulley rigs will be ideal for cod, but scale down your hook size when targeting the smaller species.
Tackle losses can be high but using a rotten-bottom will keep it to a minimum. On the bigger tides you will have to use a break-out lead to manage the strong tide pull.
